UK Power Networks makes sure the lights stay on, maintaining and upgrading electricity cables and power equipment across London, the South East and East Anglia.
In an energy market that’s constantly evolving, the need for this major brand to communicate well with customers, employees and stakeholders can be challenging. Since the company was formed in 2010, we’ve been working with them to convey those messages clearly via everything from ads and annual reports to training manuals and employee guides.
As a large regional employer, the UK Power Networks’ pension schemes are substantial with approximately 15,000 members, including around 5,000 current employees. When the company was looking for a new design style to differentiate the pension schemes administration unit from the core networks business, the objective was to engage more positively with members, as well as presenting news and information, much of which is quite complex, in an interesting and easily digestible format.
Our design solution combined striking contemporary graphics and typography with abstract lifestyle imagery to breathe new life into the presentation style. We created an intriguing and unconventional oak tree device to convey stability and growth in a modern context. This new design approach was then applied to a range of online and offline communications collateral, including newsletters, reports and posters, in a distinctive, engaging voice.
